Hello! I'm Daisy, a visual artist, maker and puppeteer based in the UK. This blog is for me to document the work I will be developing during my two month residency in Blanca, Murcia in Spain during spring 2022.

During my residency, I want to explore ideas surrounding boundaries, thresholds and "the other", with an emphasis on non-human primates.

Often regarded historically as marginal animals, monkeys and apes appear to hover on the boundary between ourselves and the rest of the animal kingdom. Like trickster figures, they seem to challenge this boundary and their proximity to humans has often aroused within in conflicting feelings of discomfort, fascination and even disgust. I am interested in how these attitudes have helped contribute to their exploitation and conservation status.

During my residency at AADK Spain in Blanca, I want to explore these themes using a variety of different media, such as puppetry, 2D, sculpture, live performance and film elements, and experiment with how these forms might cross over and combine in an installation.
