“Doll” Mask

I haven’t updated this blog for over a week, as I was having some personal things to attend to which were going on back in the UK. It meant I found it difficult to be in the studio, but I did manage to do some sewing in the little apartment I’m staying in. I sewed a mask from white cotton fabric and dyed it using tea. I wanted to create a sort of Victorian doll type character. It ended up looking much more creepy than I intended! The hair and eyelashes are made from lace.

I want to explore this character more during the rest of my residency. I’ve started off filming some experimental performances:

The above video was edited with a fancy vintage filter (might be a bit corny but I love that sort of thing!), using the “Filmm” app, and I also put it into my stop motion app (Stop Motion Studio) to see what happened:
