4th April 2022 - Arriving at Blanca
Having arrived a few days ago, I’m currently just getting my bearings of Blanca. It’s so beautiful, nestled in the Ricote valley with the River Segura running through it, completely surrounded by dark mountains covered in lemon trees.

Cetro Negra, the residency headquarters, is at the top of the hill in a tangle of tiny streets behind the village church. From it you have a view of the whole village, a jumbled pile of hickledy-pickledy buildings, in browns, ochres and pinks, with the dark mountains behind. Several little street cats patrol the area too, and lie in the sun drenched cobbles.
I am yet to be allocated my studio, so I am currently working from my bedroom. To begin,I started sculpting a head for a devil glove puppet. I am really looking forward to getting my studio. I’m hoping to be able to use Casa Jasmin - a separate, tiny abandoned peasant house right next to Centro Negra.
