Original collage cut out oil painting - Chimpanzee Artist Painting - OOAK art, assemblage mixed media

£43.00
sold out
This is an original piece of art I created recently from cut out, oil-painted card and other paper collage. It comes with a mount but is unframed.

It depicts a chimpanzee painting a canvas in a stark interior. It is one of a series of 14 pieces, depicting chimps using tools.

There have been a number of famous "chimp artists" - this image was inspired by Congo, a chimpanzee who became famous as a painter in the late 50s, enocuraged by artist and writer Desmond Morris. Congo's abstract paintings had a specific style - often consisting of radiating fan patterns. Pablo Picasso was reportedly a fan of his work.

In the 1960s, primatologist Jane Goodall discovered that, like humans, chimpanzees also use tools. It has been discovered that each group of chimps has its own way of using tools - its own culture - handed down through the generations.

The actual image size is 14.4x10.5cm inside the mount.
The image comes with an off-white mount with a black core. The mount measures 10" x 8" - it would therefore fit perfectly into a standard 10" x 8" frame - cheap and easy to come-by on eBay or a second hand store! It is signed and dated by the artist (me!) on the back of the image.

The piece will be sent with tracking.
