Original collage cut out painting - Two Chimpanzees - OOAK art mixed media
£43.00
sold out
This is an original piece of art I created recently from cut out, oil-painted card and other paper collage. . It comes with a mount but is unframed.
It depicts two chimpanzees passing each other. One carries a rock on its back. The background is a soft, peachy-pink Japanese paper. It is one of a series of 14 pieces, depicting chimps using tools.
It was quite recently discovered that chimps use rocks and sticks as humans use dolls - young chimps are sometimes seen carrying these objects around on their backs or cradling them like babies - some juveniles have even been seen making miniature nests expecially for their rock dolls. Like humans, chimpanzees are imaginative animals, demonstrating that they can project life onto inanimate objects.
In the 1960s, primatologist Jane Goodall discovered that, like humans, chimpanzees also use tools. It has been discovered that each group of chimps has its own way of using tools - its own culture - handed down through the generations.
The actual image size is 14.4x10.5cm inside the mount.
The image comes with an off-white mount with a black core. The mount measures 10" x 8" - it would therefore fit perfectly into a standard 10" x 8" frame - cheap and easy to come-by on eBay or a second hand store! It is signed and dated by the artist (me!) on the back of the image.
The piece will be sent with tracking.
