Original drypoint etching - Victorian puppet doctor and skeleton

£20.00
sold out
This listing is for an original drypoint etching made using sepia coloured Caligo oil based etching ink, on cream Hahnemuhle etching paper. It is a miniature etching, created using a pasta press!

The image depicts one of the characters in my most recent puppet show, called "The Sorrowful Tale of Sleeping Sidney", a macabre, tragi-comic tale based on the true story of the infamous Chocolate Cream Poisoner of Victorian Brighton (UK). I've been creating lots of supporting artwork for the show, including portraits of each of the puppet characters I have created.

In this piece, the Doctor sits in his studio with a display skeleton and an anatomy diagram on the background wall. While the character is based on a real person, Doctor Beard as depicted here is a self-assured and narcissistic cad, who can turn his hand to anyone...

This little etching is part of a limited edition of up to 20 prints, each one slightly different and unique, so an original piece of art in its own right. Each one is signed and numbered.

Image size - 12 x 9 cm
Paper size - 16 x 13 cm (though these dimensions may vary slightly with each print)
